Sitting on my couch in the evening in the middle of a snow storm and after a root canal I was prompted by the chill and the sedentary influence of a pain pill to resurrect a favorite image of warm summer days. Dragonflies are very bold, they fly close,...

Q
uick attempt to get the hang of drawing with my finger pressed to my droid screen. It feels like I’m sketching with my elbow or my foot. The tiny space is a challenge. The fact that my finger covers up the contact point were the line is born onto the screen at all times is a challenge. The fact that I answered an incoming call on said droid while sketching and subsequently wiped out my drawing was also a challenge.
But then, I’m always up for a challenge.
This mermaid has been with me for many years. She is my iconic heroine of the deep, reminding me to care about what hits the waterways due to my own existence. I live in a watershed that is a 3 mile wide perimeter of a lake that holds my drinking water. The lake is on the state’s list of impaired water bodies. So, I care and therefore I do not wash my car in my driveway and I do not pour fertilizers and weed killers on my lawn. The latter is obvious upon visiting my place. I’ve taken to pulling weeds and loving moss.
In the Pacific Northwest, Salmon not only live in our waterways and enrich our environment but they lend themselves as a measure of the health of our region. What is good for salmon is good for us. And could...

When I tire of flowers I think they will be present all around me in vases brought to the funeral home, I won’t be able to see them anymore because I will dead. I doubt I will tire of them before that. The leaves that sprout are the first clues to what the seed contained and if you or I know our flowers we will know the potential flowerhead by it’s baby leaf. If were not good we might upend it and completely miss it’s show.

As I wrapped up my 20 minutes of aerobic running on the Blvd Park trail that runs along Bellingham Bay. I came upon a couple of interesting sights. First was the complete entrails of some unfortunate small creature. I found this amazing because it looked like an anatomy experiment had taken place. The...

A simple breakdown of colors. On the Trail past Climbers Bivouac @ Mt. Saint Helens. I know you have seen it before, a photo with a coordinating pallet, but I thought I would make one from photos I take locally. So I am starting with Pacific northwest high country colors. Check out the...
Jose Conde has graciously given me permission to share my video using his song. His website is www.joseconde.com and he is coming out with new and different music this fall.
This video is in support of a Bellingham WA local movement to ban plastic bags. After wading through a garbage covered beach of an uninhabited, unmaintained island off the coast of Belize a couple of years ago, my outlook on our relationship to the environment has been forever changed. Plastic and other debris enter our local waterways, escape from boats and sometimes are purposefully discarded into the ocean. The pollution is devastating to wildlife. We must take an active role to reverse this harmful trend. There are so many ways to reduce the use of plastic…a very simple one is to remember your cloth bag for shopping. Please support Bag it Bellingham.
